Maintenance and Support - SQL Server
Relational client/server databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostGreSQL (for example)
came into their own in the early 1990s. Prior to that the mainframe world used heirarchical
databases with IMS being one example, or the file based systems such as dBase, FoxPro,
and Paradox. We were doing incidental access to an Oracle system from 1994 onwards, and
full database administration and development (including stored procedures) in SQL Server from
1998 onwards. Major SQL Server projects included manufacturing production control,
warehousing/fulfillment, Federal Government public records, Customer Relationship Management
systems, and so on. Various implementations include SSIS, SSRS, Replication or Mirroring,
BCP data import/export, and DTS Packages. We have been using SQL Server in some capacity
continuously since 1998.
